Watermelon prices keep dropping in Ukraine despite constant export demandback
At the beginning of August’14, prices for watermelons of high quality ranged from 1.6 to 2.0 UAH/kg, while produce of lower quality was sold at price 1.2-1.3 UAH/kg. What is extremely important is that the farmers find it very challenging to keep last year prices. That is why the amount of supplied produce increased while its quality is not always satisfying. As indicated by APK-Inform: fruits and vegetables, Ukraine will harvest watermelons by at least 8% more than last year. At the beginning of summer experts said that it will be possible to keep the prices at the last year level if export shipments are regular. Still, it is stated that even if there are any export sales issues, the prices will be lower at least by 20%, says agravery.com. As a confirmation, stable low wholesale prices are kept at WMAP Shuvar. Today, on September 2, 2015, the price is in average 2.00-2.30 UAH/kg that is 0.08-0.09 EUR/kg. Last year, the price ranged from 2.4 to 2.6 UAH/kg that was 0.15 EUR/kg. Thus, the situation is much more favourable for watermelons export. To sum up, 1200 tons of watermelons are sold daily at WMAP Shuvar . Produce is sold within no more than 36 hours, so it is always fresh.
