WORKSHOP 2014back

Representatives of Wholesale Markets from Bulgaria (Sofia), Croatia (Split), Poland (Rzeszów, Warsaw), and Ukraine (Lviv) visited the Wholesale Market in Valencia. A top manager from the Silesia Wholesale Flower Market, Tychy, Poland also participated in the workshop.

On Day 1, the Foundation members participated in a meeting in Cooperativa Agricola, a local fruit production cooperative (citrus fruit, kaki), watched harvesting in the fields, sorting/ packing lines and quality control procedures.

Managers from Anecoop, No. 1 exporter of Spanish fruit and vegetables, also participated in the meeting.

On Day 2, at the Valencia Wholesale Market, the Foundation members visited a fish and seafood sector, fruit and vegetable sectors, small producers facility, additional services (slaughter house).

The Foundation members participated in a meeting with representatives of the Wholesale Market management and MERCASA. The discussion focused on important operational management issues, best practices, marketing strategy, and a specific strategy of Spanish Wholesale Markets based on cooperation with retail markets.

MERCASA played a significant role in the organization of this event. MERCASA promotes and manages, in cooperation with the Municipalities of each city, a network of Food Units composed of 23 big wholesale distribution facilities all over Spain.
