The CEI WMF representatives from Bosnia & Herzegovina (Capljina WM), Croatia (Rijeka, Split and Zagreb WMs), Ukraine (Donetsk, Lviv, Kiev WMs) and Poland (Bronisze WM) participated in a study tour to the Rungis Wholesale Market and traditional retail wholesale markets of Paris.
The visit at the Rungis Wholesale Market took place on 16 October from 4.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. The visit started with a guided tour at the Market and focused on the Fish and Seafood Sector, Poultry and Game Sector, Red Meat Sector and Diary Sector. The participants also visited a Local Producers’ Hall and a Waste Collection Centre.
The Foundation participants had a meeting with representatives of Semmaris – a company managing the Rungis Wholesale Market. The General Secretary of Semmaris, Mr. Francis Lefevre, presented the Rungis WM history and the current operations, including the Market key figures.

The general presentation of the Rungis WM was followed by a Q&A session focused on the key issues raised by the participants related to their specific local conditions at WM in the participants’ countries, which were addressed by the hosts in detail. A part of the discussion addressed a question of the WM strategy for the future. The need to get adjusted to the constantly changing situation in the marketplace and to the growing expectations of the WM clients was strongly emphasised.
The traditional retail WMs of Paris were visited by the Foundation participants on an individual basis. These markets have a long tradition in France. There is at least one farmer’s market in each of the Parisian arrondissements (districts).

*Meeting of the Foundation*
On 16 October at 13.00, an informal meeting of the Foundation was held to discuss the current Foundation operational and financial issues, as well as plans for its future activities.
The participants have agreed to organize the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Foundation in Spain. The arrival day to Spain is planned on 12 May 2013 (Sunday).
