“The Third Generation Wholesale Markets”
Italian wholesale markets hosted the CEI WMF members during the Foundation annual meeting in Italy on 21-24 June, 2010. The study tour was organized in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
This visit offered an interesting exposure to a variety of the third generation wholesale markets in Italy.
The tour also included a seminar component in FAO to complement the hands-on experience with presentations provided by the top wholesale market experts on the important topics related to wholesale market management, operations and evolution.
Due to the Italian strongly heterogeneous territory, its cultural diversity, and various traditions, the study tour included a number of WMs still pursuing different strategies to upgrade their services to “the third generation” in terms of their size, features, organization and management approaches.
A direct exposure to the operations of the third generation WMs in Italy and the opportunity to have interesting Q&A sessions helped the participants of the study tour to identify the improvement measures to be adopted to increase the overall effectiveness and efficiency in their countries of operations.
The Foundation plenary meeting focused on the following issues:
Election of a Chairman of the Programme Council – Mr. Roman Fedyshyn, the Director of the Lviv Wholesale Market, was re-elected for another term of office;
The 2009 report of the Foundation Management Board and the 2009 Financial Statements were approved by the Programme Council;
The final proposals for amendments to the Foundation Statute were presented and discussed;
The current financial issues were discussed. A resolution was adopted to increase the membership fee in the Foundation to Euro 1250 for large markets and Euro 600 for small markets as of 2010;
A new Foundation information platform will be used to promote the Foundation activities in a more innovative way;
Action plan for 2011 – it was decided that the spring annual meeting will take place in a non-member country, i.e. Germany (Fruit Logistica 2011) or France, the Rungis Wholesale Market, and the autumn 2011 workshops will be held in Ukraine (or Albania).
